Ellie McKenzie was best afield with a career-high 23 disposals and four clearances, with Grace Egan (19 touches) and lead ruck Poppy Kelly (38 hit-outs) also outstanding.

Richmond kicked 5.1 to 0.1 in their second-best opening quarter in AFLW history and posted their second-highest total score for a match.

Brennan nailed three goals from her first three kicks opposed to Sydney defender Alice Mitchell, and snared three of the Tigers' seven inside-50 marks in the first-quarter onslaught.

The midfield battle evened up for a period before half-time, but Richmond maintained their buffer through efficiency in attack and were not seriously threatened after the main break.

"I really like getting out of the blocks early," Tigers coach Ryan Ferguson said.

"You're not always going to put that many goals on an opposition, but when you get the chance you need to be able to do that.

"We set the tone in the way that we played and hunt of the ball.

"Our pressure was immense early ... they had no time and space.

"Some composure with our disposal allowed us to get scoreboard pressure, which was huge."

The result, in the first AFLW meeting between the sides, gave Richmond a 2-1 record ahead of another winnable game against Carlton on Thursday night.

Sydney (1-2), who lost co-captain Chloe Molloy to a season-ending knee injury last week, have lost consecutive games and face a derby clash with GWS in round four.

Montana Ham (two goals) was a shining light in attack for the Swans, and Laura Gardiner worked tirelessly for a game-high 29 touches, six tackles and five clearances.

Not only missing injured gun forward Molloy, Sydney were also without rested All-Australian ruck Ally Morphett and failed to adjust without the two stars.

"Richmond put the foot to the floor and gave us a lesson in uncontested footy and spread from the contest and a territory game," Swans coach Scott Gowans said.

"We got a lesson today."
