Young gun Broc Feeney has dodged Triple Eight teammate Will Brown and a free-wheeling tyre to claim career win number seven at the Supercars season-opening Bathurst 500.
Feeney stood tallest on the podium after taking the first race of the season on Saturday with a lap time of one minute 36.15 seconds, but a lone tyre momentarily stole the show at Mount Panorama.
As Feeney began his charge home, Cam Waters' rear left tyre went flying off his Ford Mustang after a pit stop in the 34th lap and began to tumble down the mountain circuit.
With road control unable to retrieve the tyre, drivers were made to swerve out of danger.
Luckily for Feeney, the unleashed tyre had no impact on his grip on top spot.
"To come out one-two in qualifying and then race today, I'm pumped," Feeney said after the race.
"I felt like I needed a win to get me going again."
Denied pole position by Brown earlier in the day, it was the 21-year-old's turn to pip his new teammate.
Feeney had started alongside Brown before he got the better of his new teammate following a compulsory pit stop on lap 13.
In the end, the former Erebus driver came second by 0.39 seconds.
Walkinshaw Andretti United's Chaz Mostert rounded out the podium as the third fastest, after trying and failing to jump the gun behind Brown.
"The new cars are definitely wider - I couldn't really pick a lane," Mostert said.
"I was trying to dart to the inside and I see this Toowoomba man (Brown) look at his mirror and dart to the left.
"I tried to go in the middle and they both came in.
"I was trying my hardest to catch the guys at the front, but even if I got up to them, I didn't think I'd probably have much more."
Mostert's young teammate Ryan Wood was the unluckiest of the 24-strong line-up after a collision required his Ford Mustang to be towed off just seconds into the first lap.
The rookie's Supercars debut was cut short when, caught in a Tim Slade-Andre Heimgartner sandwich, Wood lost steering control and crashed into the sand trap.
Fellow rookie Aaron Love (Blanchard Racing Team) was ruled out of the race at lap 24 when the right side of his Ford Mustang collided with the fence.
Unable to straighten the car, Love drifted sideways home to pit lane.
The 21-year-old was able to return to the race course before again colliding with the wall - this time at the fourth turn - in the third-last lap of the race.
