Carlton coach Michael Voss calls it another "signature moment".
The Blues ended an unwanted, decade-long record with a stirring six-goal away win against Port Adelaide on Thursday night.
The victory was Carlton's first at Adelaide Oval against a South Australian opponent - they'd lost their previous seven attempts by an average of 64 points.
The Blues did beat Fremantle at the venue in this year's Gather Round.
But Voss says downing the Power on their home deck, and tossing a proverbial monkey from his club's back, is special.
"It's part of our transformation as a team," Voss said after the Blues' 16.11 (107) to 10.11 (71) win.
"Over the last two or three years it feels like there's been a number of records that we've had to try and change.
"Clearly the results haven't been in our favour for a period of time as a club so there's a few of those sorts of things that the ledger is not in the right way.
"But over the last two or three years, we've gradually been able to go about being able to create that transformation and be able to create that consistency that we're trying to become, as not just a football team but as a football club.
"Wins like tonight, that probably goes in that bucket a little bit.
"It's just that nice little signature moment, if you want to call it that, where a record that has been there, or a history that's been there, is not so much a factor any more."
Carlton's win against Port was not only substantial, but stylish: they booted eight goals to three in the final quarter.
The Blues have eight wins and four loss and Voss noted they have already played a batch of powerful clubs - the list includes Collingwood, Brisbane, Sydney, Geelong, Melbourne and Port.
"We've been playing against some really good teams over the last little while - it feels like we're playing every team in the top eight right now or close to the top four," Voss said.
"So we've been challenged in a lot of areas but, as a result, we found out more about ourselves."
The next challenge is a Victorian blockbuster in every sense: Carlton versus a resurgent Essendon at the MCG next Saturday night.
"What we've done pretty well over the last little while is just go after the next opponent," Voss said.
"It has been dangerous to think otherwise."
