The wait goes on for Australian surfing superstars Stephanie Gilmore and Tyler Wright, after organisers of the World Surf League's El Salvador Pro called two lay-days because of small, inconsistent waves at Punta Roca.
With competition put on hold for Monday and Tuesday local time, the World Surf League (WSL) will next review conditions at 6.15am CST on Wednesday (9.15pm AEST).
"With very slow swells becoming more inconsistent due to the high tide, we've decided to call two lay days," the WSL's competition director Renato Hickel said.
"We are looking now for Thursday. That will be our next best option.
"There will be a new swell, even though small and a similar size, with new energy, and we're going to have a better tide cycle in the morning."
When competition does restart, eight-time world champion Gilmore will take on fellow Australian and current world No.2 Wright in a blockbuster semi-final.
The other head-to-head in the women's final four pits Hawaii's five-time world champion Carissa Moore against rising American surfer Caroline Marks.
Liam O'Brien is the last Australian man standing on the seventh stop of the WSL tour.
Looking to reach a first Championship Tour final, O'Brien will face world No.1 and reigning El Salvador champion Griffin Colapinto, from the USA.
Rookie Ian Gentil faces an equally tough task in the other men's semi, in which he will take on Brazil's world champion Filipe Toledo.
