'Fire in our belly': Suns plot to scorch Crows in AFLW

Gold Coast are bent on breaking loose of their rank outsider status to hand Adelaide their first loss of the AFLW season.

For the first time since joining the competition in 2020, the Suns (3-1) have strung together three consecutive wins to record their best-ever start to a campaign and put themselves sixth on the ladder.

Heading into their second-ever meeting with the Crows, at Unley Oval on Sunday, Gold Coast are a far cry from the side that lost by 70 points in the teams' first clash back in 2021.

Midfielder Lucy Single said the Suns are determined to remain in the top eight after finishing ninth last season to fall narrowly short of their first-ever finals series.

"It's put a fire in our belly. We want to be there challenging the best," Single told AAP.

"We don't want to give anyone an easy run. We want to show that we can be up with the top teams.

"We know (Adelaide) are a very strong team but it's just exciting to see what we can do."

As the regular season hits its halfway point, Crows midfielder Eloise Jones said defeating high-flying Gold Coast would be a strong step on the road towards Adelaide's fourth premiership.

"It's really important in the AFLW, when you have a shorter season, to be able to get wins on the board early," she said earlier in the week.

"Gold Coast have been playing really well. They've come out and produced some great game, so we know it's going to be another tough one.

"Our home run is going to be really hard, we've got some really great teams coming up, (including) Brisbane, North Melbourne."

While the Suns and the unbeaten Crows look to add another win to their name, there are still three sides in the competition yet to taste success this season.

The 16th-placed Western Bulldogs and bottom-of-the-ladder West Coast are a chance to finally get over the line on Friday.

The Bulldogs welcome St Kilda (1-3) to a redeveloped Whitten Oval, while the Eagles host Port Adelaide (1-3).

A first win looks less likely for 17th-placed Greater Western Sydney when they make the trip to Arden Street on Sunday to take on a powerful North Melbourne (3-1) side looking to make up for their two-point loss to Brisbane last time out.

Ikon Park will host a double-header on Friday evening, with Richmond (3-1) playing Fremantle (2-2) and Carlton going head-to-head with Sydney (both 2-2).

Collingwood (1-3) kick off Saturday's AFL action against in-form expansion club Essendon (3-1) at Punt Road Oval before their men take centre stage for the afternoon's grand final at the MCG.

Hawthorn (1-3) return to Frankston on Sunday to host the Brisbane Lions (3-1).
