Five men have been charged over an alleged gang-related shooting that occurred just blocks from the prime minister’s Sydney residence.
Police made a series of arrests across a three-day period to Thursday over the incident.
The October attack in Kirribilli, on Sydney’s genteel lower north shore, left a 37-year-old man with a leg injury after he was shot while trying to run away.
That man declined medical attention and police said at the time he was refusing to cooperate with their investigation.
He was approached and shot at by a man who arrived in a white Ford before the gunman fled the scene.
The car was found on fire a short time later with the offenders said to have left the scene in another vehicle, which was also found burnt out a day later.
Emergency services were called to Upper Pitt St after the shooting, which is about 600m from the prime minister’s official Sydney residence of Kirribilli House.
Police raided two properties in Sydney’s west on Tuesday and made a number of arrests.
An 18-year-old man was charged with shooting with intent to murder, destroying property by fire and participating in a criminal group.
Another 18-year-old man was charged with destroying property by fire and participating in a criminal group.
A 19-year-old man was charged with shooting with intent to murder and participating in a criminal group while a 35-year-old man, pulled over by police in southwest Sydney on Wednesday, was charged with damaging property by fire or explosion.
A fifth man was arrested on Thursday morning and charged with shooting with intent to murder and destroying property by fire.
Police will allege he was the gunman when he appears in court.
