Residents of the northern Victorian town of St Arnaud are in danger of flash flooding while the risk in Wedderburn has subsided following a Christmas deluge.
VicEmergency has issued a watch and act alert for flash flooding for residents of St Arnaud, about 160km from the Victoria-NSW border following heavy rainfall.
"If you are located in the St Arnaud township, you are in danger," the alert said.
"You should immediately move indoors, away from floodwater.
"Do not enter floodwater."
Floodwaters have impacted the Wimmera and Sunraysia highways, Wedderburn-St Arnaud Road and St Arnaud-Wycheproof Road.
Emergency authorities warned other roads near creeks will be impacted to the extent experienced in the 2019 flash flood event, which resulted in roads being inundated.
The threat of flooding to Wedderburn was downgraded at 1.50pm on Monday but authorities urged people to be aware of hazards that remain in the area.
Multiple roads connected to Wedderburn were impacted by flood waters including the Calder Highway between Charlton and Inglewood.
The Bureau of Meteorology's nearby Kerang observation station indicated the area received more than 94mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
People are urged to avoid flooded and low-lying areas as rapidly flowing floodwaters can be very deep and rise quickly.
"Be aware that heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads," the alert warned.
There are flood watches in place for the Avoca, Loddon and Campaspe rivers following moderate to heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms that may cause isolated minor flooding with localised flooding.
