Four "guns for hire" accused of kidnapping then gruesomely torturing two men were allegedly touting their services on what police describe as "Airtasker for violent criminals".
The men are facing a string of charges over the incident where two men aged 29 and 30 were allegedly forced into the back of a ute at gunpoint about 9.30am on August 3.
They were taken to an unknown area where attackers allegedly tortured them by hammering their hands, before they were taken to a park in Claymore, in Sydney's southwest and shot.
It is also alleged the men were threatened with an axe during the ordeal.
Police found the 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his torso at a shop, before other officials were called to a Claymore park where the 29-year-old was found with bullet wounds to his head and torso.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Koutsoufis believed the 30-year-old freed himself and was able to flee the park where they were initially held.
Both were taken to hospital, with one in a critical condition, but they have both since recovered.
Det Supt Koutsoufis alleged the people responsible for the attack fully intended to kill the pair.
“They were in broad, public locations, taken away and kidnapped and taken to a park to be shot in the head,” he said.
“It is only by the grace of God that both survived, especially the male that was shot in the head.”
Police searched properties across six Sydney suburbs on Tuesday and seized an axe, three vehicles and items of clothing.
Asked if all four accused were associated with the same organised crime network, Det Supt Koutsoufis said a number had been allegedly freelancing between crews.
"Some of these males were acting as guns for hire, almost like an Airtasker for violent criminals," he said.
"They were putting their services out there to act in this manner, they have no issue with extreme violence, it's just very good work to have these guys identified and arrested, charged and locked up."
A 26-year-old Oran Park man was charged with three counts of shooting with intent to murder, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of assaulting a person as part of a criminal group and robbery.
A 23-year-old Bradbury man was charged with three counts of shooting with intent to murder, two counts of kidnapping and assaulting a person as part of a criminal group.
A 21-year-old Claymore man and a 22-year-old Eagle Vale man were also charged over the incident.
All four were arrested on Tuesday and denied police bail, and were expected to face court on Wednesday.
During the search on Tuesday, a 24-year-old man was charged with assaulting a police officer and hindering police in the execution of their duty.
He was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station before being bailed to appear in court on October 10.
