Hawthorn hope a refreshed Luke Breust will be able to regain his hot form from last season when he makes his return in Saturday's crunch clash with Geelong.
Breust only narrowly missed out on a spot in the 2023 All-Australian side after kicking 47.23 across 23 games last year.
The 33-year-old has hit tougher times this season, with the three-time premiership star kicking just 7.5 in nine games.
Breust, who was sidelined earlier this season with a groin injury, was rested from last week's 61-point mauling of West Coast in Perth.
Given Hawthorn had a bye the previous week, Breust has now had two weeks to refresh and recharge.
Hawks coach Sam Mitchell hopes the break has left Breust ready to fire, physically and mentally.
"I was really pleased with the management of him," Mitchell told reporters on Thursday.
"Our medical staff did a really good job of him playing a consistent role before the bye.
"We knew if we could get him two weeks (of rest) ... that would get him back into the side, and then he could play and get physically right.
"He was in the (extended) All-Australian squad last year.
"He hasn't been able to produce physically his best to this point of the year, but really pleased he'll be able to get back and lead the way in our front half."
Hawthorn skipper James Sicily will miss the match against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium after dislocating his right shoulder for the second time this season.
Sicily is expected to undergo a shoulder reconstruction at the end of the season, and will have to manage the injury in the meantime.
The star defender missed two weeks earlier this season when his shoulder popped out, but Mitchell is hopeful he'll only miss one match this time around.
"Because there was an injury there already, it is a bit of a different management," Mitchell said.
Spearhead Mitch Lewis, who has made two VFL appearances since recovering from a hamstring and knee injury, has been recalled for his fourth AFL match of the season.
"I was really pleased with his output. It was a tough day for a key forward for Box Hill in the rain, but I thought he competed well and gave himself every chance," Mitchell said.
Forward Jack Ginnivan was named in the side despite being in doubt with a lower leg injury.
The Hawks (8-7) are within half a win of the top eight following five straight victories, while Geelong (9-6) are fifth.
