A man has been shot after allegedly confronting police with a fishing knife at a suburban business.
He is accused of causing an early morning disturbance in Brisbane's south before threatening two officers on Monday.
The man in his 40s was Tasered after advancing on officers and making threats but it proved "ineffective", police said.
"As the man continued to advance on police, they discharged one shot which struck the man," a police statement said.
He was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
No one else was injured in the Rochedale incident.
Two officers were called to the business about 5.50am after staff complained that the man was behaving in a threatening manner, police said.
The man is also accused of damaging vehicles in the car park.
"We were advised that there was a number of cars that he was damaging and that he was making a number of threats and calling out," Acting Chief Superintendent Shane Holmes told reporters on Monday.
"At one point in time his vehicle was used to drive into the business premises and caused some damage.
âHe has then walked into another part of the business premises at which that was the location where the police actually confront him."
The man received medical assistance before he was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he was to undergo surgery.
Police are yet to establish any connection between the man and the business.
The matter is under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
"Police are trained to make critical decisions under time sensitive situations on a daily basis, whilst balancing the need to protect themselves and the public and also to use minimum force thatâs necessary,â Acting Chief Supt Holmes said.
