A man has been arrested after he allegedly led an anti-Semitic demonstration on the steps of Victorian parliament.
Police were called after reports up to 20 people, dressed in black, were allegedly displaying a banner that reportedly read “Jews Hate Freedom” on Friday.
When police arrived, the protest group fled towards Fitzroy Gardens, east of the CBD.
Officers said they were told members of the public who witnessed the incident were "outraged and verbally showed their disgust" to those demonstrating.
A 29-year-old Wantirna South man was arrested after he presented at a police station about 7.40pm on Monday.
It came after police raided a home in the same suburb and items were seized.
The man was interviewed in relation to grossly offensive public conduct, Racial and Religious Tolerance Act offences and offensive behaviour.
He was released while a brief of evidence is prepared and the proposed charges are submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for approval, as required under the Racial and Religious Tolerances Act legislation.
Police continue to work to identify others involved in the demonstration.
