Manslaughter charges after kids killed in street race

A pair of alleged streets racers have been charged with upgraded manslaughter offences after a crash that killed two children.

Jimmy Martin Brito, 33, was allegedly driving a Subaru Impreza, racing 25-year-old Adam Yurun in a grey Audi A4, when he veered out of control and crashed into a tree, killing two children and injuring another at Monterey in Sydney’s south in August.

Police allege the Subaru was travelling at more than 45km/h over the local speed limit of 60km/h in the lead-up to the crash.

Brito is accused of manslaughter after charges against him were upgraded for a third time in February.

Police seized the Audi and charged Yurun with aiding and abetting charges for aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, organising a street race and failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing death in September.

But the 25-year-old has also been charged with manslaughter and aiding and abetting manslaughter.

Yurun is on bail and was excused from attending Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday when the court heard the upgraded charges.

The pair return to court in May.
