A man who died after a road-rage incident was likely dragged along the street by a ute when he got out of his car, police say.
Emergency services were called to Jersey Road at Blackett, in Sydney's west, on Thursday morning after receiving reports a person had been hit by a vehicle.
Officers discovered a 27-year-old man about 100m from his car, which investigators believe he got out of before being hit by the ute.
The man, who was wearing high-visibility clothes, died at the scene while being treated by paramedics.
Police believe the incident followed a road-rage confrontation between the victim and the ute driver, acting Inspector Shane Ranee told reporters.
"Apparently the victim had gotten out of the vehicle after being threatened by the car following him," he said.
"Words were said, that's what led us to believe it could have happened because of a road rage-incident."
The 27-year-old was likely dragged by the ute for the 100m-distance from his car, Insp Ranee said.
Police did not know if the victim and the driver knew each other before the incident.
CCTV footage showed the vehicle involved was a white ute with a metal tray, black canopy and a toolbox with metal racks on top.
Insp Ranee described the incident as "devastating" as he appealed for anyone who knew the ute driver or who had relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
"I feel bad for the victim's parents, the victim's family and I appeal for the driver to please come forward and hand himself in to police," he said.
