Police are searching for a teenager granted bail after a crash that killed a 28-year-old man, whose family has described their devastating loss.
Victoria Police on Tuesday afternoon alleged the 17-year-old failed to comply with his bail conditions and his whereabouts were unknown.
The teen faced a children's court on Friday after being charged with culpable driving causing death and was released on bail after a judge found the case against him was weak.
Police allege he was behind the wheel of a stolen Jeep that was speeding in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Burwood on July 2 and collided with a Toyota.
Ashburton man William Taylor died at the scene.
The boy's lawyer said the 17-year-old had stable accommodation with his mother, was attending a Melbourne private school and was not on bail at the time of the alleged offending.
The judge found any risk the boy posed could be reduced through conditions, including a curfew.
Two 15-year-old girls were charged with car theft and three other males remain wanted over the collision.
The family of Mr Taylor have described him as a much-loved son, brother, partner and friend.
"He was a quiet, intelligent and thoughtful young man who loved his sport," they said.
"We are heartbroken and ask our privacy is respected as we come to terms with this devastating loss."
The crash reignited political argument about Victorian bail laws, with then-Acting Premier Ben Carroll denying the courts were going "too soft" on young alleged offenders.
