Port can ride out GWS 'tsunami': Sam Powell-Pepper

Sam Powell-Pepper knows Port Adelaide's injury-hit backline alone won't stop the Greater Western Sydney "tsunami".

So the tough-as-nails Power forward has urged the rest of his side to step up and stir the Adelaide Oval faithful into action in Saturday's knockout AFL semi-final.

Powell-Pepper (two goals, 19 disposals) was among Port's best in a 48-point loss to the Brisbane Lions on Saturday at the Gabba.

His ferocious duel with Brandon Starcevich was an entertaining subplot in a qualifying final shoot-out Port briefly led before the hosts blazed clear late in the third quarter.

Second-half injuries to defenders Trent McKenzie and Dylan Williams, as well as the loss of captain Tom Jonas late last week, added further headaches for Port coach Ken Hinkley.

The Giants have won 10 of their last 12 games to reach the semi-final, although one of those losses was by 51 points against the Power a month ago.

"We'll take a lot from that second quarter (against Brisbane) and confidence from the win against GWS a couple of weeks back," Powell-Pepper told AAP.

"But we won't take them lightly. We'll have to put some time into Toby Greene and they're like a tsunami, you know.

"They just run in waves and it's really hard to defend.

"Our backline's held up throughout the year but you can't just rely on them.

"We've all got to help each other and we'll be ready for a scrap."

Powell-Pepper said there would be no "moping around" given Port's third-place finish afforded them a second chance at their home ground.

"So we'll take some notes and fire it up for next week," he said.

"You've got to get back on the horse, be positive, drive training and enjoy the excitement of playing in front of a home crowd."

It will be a welcome return home after Brisbane's Gabba faithful were in full voice on Saturday.

"It's always hard coming up there; it was pretty loud," Powell-Pepper said.

"Our fans give us a lot of energy so we'll feed off that.

"We're still in finals, so we should be very excited."
