Residents return after dangerous blaze threatened homes

Residents have been cleared to return to their properties after a blaze that had threatened homes in southeast Queensland was brought under control.

One shed was destroyed while homes and other properties were threatened by the grassfire near Boonah, west of the Gold Coast.

Authorities revoked an emergency alert for Mount French on Friday night after residents had earlier been told to seek shelter immediately.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said residents in the warning area - between Mount French Road, Sommers Road and Frenches Creek Road including Schubel Road - were advised they could return with caution.

The fire had been fanned by high winds, with QFES ground crews at the scene along with police and the Queensland Ambulance Service.

Water bombers and other aircraft helped to tackle the blaze.

"The fire along Schubel Road is now under control and will continue to burn for several days," QFES said in a statement on Friday night.

"It is travelling slowly‎ towards Mount French Road.

"Firefighters are on site.

"If you left the area, you can return with caution."

Police said members of the public were advised to avoid the area and those within the exclusion zone were asked to follow any emergency services directions.

QFES advised residents to be careful around damaged buildings, to watch out for burnt trees and hot embers on the ground and to stay away from fallen powerlines.
