Brisbane captain Adam Reynolds will return from injury against Parramatta in a clash that will have major ramifications for the NRL's top eight.

Reynolds, who missed last week's win over North Queensland with a groin twinge, has been named at halfback for the round-24 showdown with the ninth-placed Eels at the Gabba on Friday night.

The Broncos, on 36 points, want to hang onto second spot on the ladder while the Eels (26) must keep winning to play finals football.

Brisbane also welcome back second-rower Jordan Riki (foot) for his first game since round 17.

Kobe Hetherington (back cork) returns after missing one week, while exciting flyer Deine Mariner comes in on the wing for Jesse Arthars (head knock).

The Eels have sprung a surprise by naming playmaker Daejarn Asi in the centres with Bailey Simonsson shifting to the wing.

Melbourne have received a massive boost for Sunday's clash with Canberra at AAMI Park with talismanic No.7 Jahrome Hughes (ankle) and Queensland winger Xavier Coates (hip) named after missing last week's loss to Penrith.

The Storm and the Raiders are on 30 points and jostling for fourth position.

Canberra will be without centre Sebastian Kris (hamstring) and will give an NRL debut to 18-year-old Ethan Strange who has been outstanding in the NSW junior system.

South Sydney will start Shaquai Mitchell at prop for the suspended Tom Burgess against St George Illawarra in Cairns on Saturday as they aim to find a late-season surge.

The Dragons have lost centres Jack Bird and Zac Lomax to shoulder injuries, with Moses Suli returning from calf trouble and Max Feagai shifting from the wing to join him in the centres.

The Sydney Roosters will aim to keep their slim finals hopes alive at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night, with prop Dylan Napa listed to replace the suspended Nathan Brown on the bench.

Napa last played NRL in 2021 with the Bulldogs and his most recent match for the Roosters was in 2018's grand-final winning side.

Manly prop Sean Keppie returns from a back complaint against an unchanged Penrith on Thursday night to replace fellow front-rower Matt Lodge who last week suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Sixth-placed Cronulla have received a boost in their top-four charge, with winger Ronaldo Mulitalo (jaw) back on deck for Friday night's clash against Gold Coast at PointsBet Stadium.

Titans skipper Tino Fa'asuamaleaui is listed to return from a three-week suspension to replace Moeaki Fotuaika (suspended) at prop.

Warriors fullback Taine Tuaupiki gets his first start since round three in place of Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (head knock) for the showdown in Hamilton with Wests Tigers on Saturday night.

The Tigers welcome back Stefano Utoikamanu and Shawn Blore from concussion protocols.

Newcastle have suffered a blow ahead of Sunday's home fixture against Canterbury, with star centre Bradman Best out with an adductor injury and replaced by Enari Tuala.

English prop Luke Thompson plays his first NRL game of the season on the bench for the Bulldogs after a long recovery from a foot injury.
