Former England international Jack Rodwell has departed Sydney FC, likely bringing an end to his time in the A-League Men competition.
After two seasons with the Sky Blues, Rodwell headlined five departures announced on Wednesday night with Robert Mak, Fabio Gomes, Gabriel Lacerda and Adam Pavlesic also moving on.
The Sky Blues have 23 players signed for next season under Ufuk Talay, who took the reins last November after replacing Steve Corica.
Rodwell's season came to a premature end after he was sent off and received a two-match ban for a bad tackle in Sydney's first semi-final leg against Central Coast.
The 33-year-old three-cap England defender joined Sydney two years ago after a season-long stint with Western Sydney Wanderers.
But while his class, composure and experience shone through, Rodwell's body failed him as he managed just 22 ALM appearances across two campaigns at Sydney.
Slovakian Mak has finished his two-year contract and was recently linked with a return to his homeland with Slovan Bratislava.
The winger, 33, scored 20 goals across two seasons.
Gomes, 26, scored 11 goals this season but returns to Brazilian Serie A parent club Atletico Minero after his loan finished.
Gabriel re-joins Brazilian Serie B side Ceara Sporting Club following the expiration of his loan.
Young goalkeeper Pavlesic, 21, has departed after his contract ended.
“I’d like to thank each of the departing players for their service to Sydney FC,” Corica said.
“Each one has made a positive contribution to this club and I wish them all the very best for the future and their careers.”
