Saveska hat-trick ends Wanderers' ALW winless streak

Western Sydney have ended their A-League Women drought in emphatic fashion, claiming a 5-1 win over Western United.

Sienna Saveska stole the show at CommBank Stadium with a first-half hat-trick, before Cushla Rue and Danika Matos added a goal each to seal their first win of the new season.

Also on Saturday, a 10-player Newcastle outfit stunned reigning champions Sydney FC to claim a 2-1 victory, and  Brisbane's match against Central Coast was abandoned due to heavy rainfall at Perry Park.

Robbie Hooker's Wanderers were dead-last on one point heading into their round-six fixture against top-six team United.

They rise provisionally to 11th ahead of fellow strugglers Perth Glory's match against Adelaide on Sunday.

Midfielder Saveska pulled off a stunning hat-trick within 17 minutes to all but gift the Wanderers their first bag of three points.

The teenager opened the scoring with a corner goal in the 10th minute, finding her second in the 24th minute, before launching from just outside the box three minutes later.

Rue, who notched an assist for Saveska's second, piled the misery on Western United in the 38th minute, followed by Matos's 82th-minute goal.

Western Sydney's only blemish was a 64th-minute goal by Chloe Logarzo, the Matildas star scoring after Ella Buchanan gave away a handball penalty.

At Allianz Stadium, Newcastle's Lauren Allan scored in the final minute as Princess Ibini featured in her 146th match to become Sydney's games record-holder.

Western United were forced to play one player down for more than an hour after goalkeeper Danielle Krzyzaniak was sent off for fouling Ibini outside the box in the 12th minute.

Josie Allan was the unlucky player who had to make way for back-up keeper Tiahna Robertson.

Indiana Dos Santos scored 10 minutes later after intercepting Robertson's pass to defender Lorena Baumann, before Deven Jackson defied the numerical disadvantage to score in the 86th minute.

Allan, who came on in the 70th minute, then scored in the last of five additional minutes to stun the reigning champions.

It is the fourth defeat of a so-far sub-par title defence for Sydney FC, while the Jets rise into the top six on eight points.

The Australian Professional Leagues will determine a rescheduled date for the Roar-Mariners fixture in the coming week.

Originally scheduled for a 6pm (AEDT) start, the match was postponed twice after water began to pool on the pitch, before being abandoned.
