Senator Lidia Thorpe has revealed she is the politician referred to in a threatening video.
On Friday, Australian Federal Police said a 30-year-old Melbourne man had been charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.
"(The man) has been charged for his alleged role in creating and publishing an offensive video online, which included alleged threats of violence against an Australian Senator," the statement said.
Ms Thorpe then came forward and identified herself as that politician.
"The senator will not be making any further statements on this matter due to ongoing physical impacts resulting from a car accident she was involved in last month," her office said in a statement on Saturday.
"The senator is experiencing significant complications as a result of the accident and is undergoing medical treatment."
Australian Federal Police searched a home in Mernda in Melbourne's north in June 2022 and seized three electronic devices as part of the investigation into the video.
On Friday, federal police officers said they allegedly found evidence of the man’s involvement in producing and distributing the video on those devices.
Commander Stephen Nutt said all reports to police impacting the security and safety of office holders were taken very seriously.
“The AFP supports political expression and freedom of speech but when it leads to criminal behaviour, including threats and harassment, it will not be tolerated,” he said.
The man will face court in September and could face up to five years in jail if convicted.
