Hopes of getting day two of the Pipe Pro underway have been dashed after promising early signs at the World Surf League's (WSL) season-opening contest at Hawaii's Banzai Pipeline.
Organisers delayed a decision on whether competition would resume on Monday after a four-day postponement, and initial signs were that the women were going to hit the water for their round one heats.
"It's really big out here right now, we're seeing a couple of wash-throughs and there's not a lot of diamonds in the rough," the WSL's chief of sport Jessi Miley-Dyer said at the early call.
"But we are really confident that it is going to continue to get better, it's going to clean up and we do think we're going to be on for today."
However conditions failed to improve as expected, forcing the competition into another lay-day, with the event window open until February 10.
The next event on the Championship Tour is at nearby Sunset Beach, also on Oahu, with that competition window opening February 12.
Only two rounds of the men's Pipe Pro competition have been able to be completed.
When the women's event gets started Australia's world No.3 Tyler Wright is in first heat, taking on local Bettylou Sakura Johnson and Brazil's Luana Silva.
