An alleged gunman has died after being shot by police on the streets of an outback mining town.
Officers were called to an alleyway in the West Australian mining town of Kalgoorlie just after noon on Friday.
"Police attended, and during the incident, firearms were discharged and the man received serious injuries," WA Police said in a statement.
Police later confirmed the man had died and his family has been informed.
The force said detectives were in Kalgoorlie to investigate the incident.
Officers from the Internal Affairs Unit will have oversight of the probe.
Police said there was no threat to public safety, although people have been advised to avoid the area near Whitlock Street.
Officers involved in the incident are being provided health and welfare support.
