Three to be charged over teen's New Year's Day death

Three people are expected to be charged over the death of a 19-year-old man found on a remote road outside Alice Springs on New Year's Day.

Northern Territory Police successfully applied for the extradition of a 22-year-old man from Victoria on Sunday.

He will be flown back to Alice Springs on Monday, where he will face court charged with murder.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch are also preparing to charge a 17-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man for accessory to murder after the fact.

The pair are yet to be charged despite having been held in custody since January 8. They are expected to appear in court on Monday.

A 20-year-old man, who was also arrested on January 8, has been released without charge, pending further investigations.

Police said officers had been in contact with the victim's family to update them on the progress of the investigation.

The 19-year-old, who was described as being of African descent, was found by a driver on an unsealed road near Undoolya Station about 12.30pm on New Year's Day.

Police said investigations into the death were still ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact them immediately.
