Titans super sub Campbell needs more minutes: Brimson

Gold Coast fullback AJ Brimson has called for super sub Jayden Campbell to get more game time as the Titans prepare to keep their slim finals hopes alive against North Queensland.

Campbell has been named on the bench at No.14 again for Sunday's clash with the Cowboys at Robina.

He trained at No.6 on Tuesday as veteran regular five-eighth Kieran Foran, who sometimes sits out training early in the week, was unavailable. Foran has been named and is expected to return for Thursday's session.

Campbell came on in the 60th minute for halfback Tanah Boyd in Saturday's 36-18 loss to the Sydney Roosters with the Titans trailing 36-0 at the time, and they were a much better side with him on the field.

Campbell filled in at fullback when Brimson was out injured or on State of Origin duty and has done a stellar job, notching 315 running metres in the 23-21 loss to the Dolphins - the most by a Titans player in history.

The 23-year-old has played 18 games this season but in six of them he has been on the field for less than 25 minutes.

Brimson said he had spoken with coach Jimmy Lenihan about the need to get Campbell more involved.

"I was chatting to Jimmy after the game and I said, 'we need to find a way for us both to be out there'," Brimson said.

"There is a lot of talk about who should be playing No.1 but I like playing with him where we can link up and play some footy.

"It is up to the coaches where they can fit him in but I definitely like it when he comes out there. It takes a bit of pressure off me because he is such a threat."

Lenihan said after the Roosters loss Brimson and halves duo Kieran Foran and Boyd had all been playing well, but acknowledged the need to get Campbell more minutes.

"We have got a good spread of talent and it is difficult getting everyone the full time they need out there," Lenihan said.

"It is a little bit of a juggling act at the moment with JC. To get him more minutes would be better. We will find that balance.

"There is no doubt he can play in the halves and he can probably play a little bit in the centres as well. He's got some versatility about him."

Gold Coast are on 20 points, four outside the top eight, and must win all of their six remaining games to have a hope of playing finals.

Brimson said the reason for the side's poor performance against last time out was "mainly just attitude" related.

"We have to learn from it and put in a performance on Sunday in front of another home crowd," he said.
