The NSW Waratahs have fended off the Sydney Roosters to retain teenage sensation Max Jorgensen until at least the end of 2026.
Having already enticed dynamic winger Mark Nawaqanitawase to switch codes next season, the Roosters had been courting Jorgensen in the hope of signing the electric outside back on a massive two-year deal.
Nick Politis earlier this month denied tabling Jorgensen a $1.8 million contract, but the Tricolours supremo and triple premiership-winning coach Trent Robinson met with the 2023 World Cup squad member to express their interest.
But the son of former Roosters and Penrith player Peter Jorgensen has opted to recommit to Australian rugby for another two years after his current contract expires at the end of 2024.
His retention ensures Jorgensen will be around for next year's hosting of the touring British and Irish Lions, while it now seems likely he will also be tempted to stay on for the home Rugby World Cup in Australia in 2027.
"I couldn't be happier to commit my future to the Waratahs and Australian rugby," Jorgensen said.
"The game has a lot to look forward to in this country in the coming years, and I am excited by the prospect of being a part of it.
"I am really enjoying my footy, and I believe this is the best place for me to continue my development.
"For me, it is all about working hard and trying to earn opportunities at the Waratahs, and hopefully the Wallabies."
Waratahs coach Darren Coleman said it was exciting to keep a player of Jorgensen's calibre and potential in rugby.
"A player like Max obviously attracts a lot of interest," Coleman said.
"But I know that he's really motivated to achieve success in his rugby career.
"We've all seen what he can do on the field, but Max is also an awesome team member and the boys love having him as a part of our club.
"The Waratahs are very happy to keep Max and we look forward to seeing him progress in the sky blue jersey."
