A man charged with murdering one woman and wounding another in a random knife attack is back in custody days after he was released from a mental health facility.
Property manager Julie "Julez" Seed died after being stabbed at her workplace in the inner-south Adelaide suburb of Plympton on Wednesday afternoon.
The 38-year-old had been working at REAL Estate Agents Group since June 2021, according to a Facebook post by the company.
A 50-year-old Henley Beach woman was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) with serious injuries and is in a stable condition.
SA Health said the alleged assailant, Shaun Michaels Dunk, was being treated for a mental health condition at the RAH before a clinical decision resulted in him being released into the community on Monday.
The state's Chief Psychiatrist John Brayley said his office will conduct an independent review, led by a senior psychiatrist from interstate, into the patient's clinical care.
"I acknowledge the serious and distressing incident that occurred late yesterday leading to a loss of life of a person and serious injury to another," Dr Brayley said in a statement.
"My thoughts are with all those affected by these events.
"Key outcomes will be made public and the full report will be provided to the coroner.
"While situations like this are rare, we know this will have a significant impact on many people in the broader community, including staff in our hospitals."
Dunk was arrested at the scene and charged with murder and attempted murder.
SA Police allege the 30-year-old was not known to the women and had been walking along Anzac Highway and surrounding areas prior to the incident.
Officers seized a knife and a small hammer from the scene.
Dunk made no application for bail when he appeared before Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.
His lawyer asked he be remanded in custody under mental health legislation.
He is due back in court in March 2024.
